A Full Frame Around Each Panel

Overlapping vertical featheredge boards create the solid face, with a timber perimeter frame giving the panel a defined edge. These framed closeboard panels are designed for fixing to timber fence posts.

Framed Closeboard Panel Buying Guide

Choose the height, check the fit and plan the supporting materials before you order.

Measure the Finished Fence Height

All panels in this range are 6ft wide, with seven height options from 3ft to 6ft. Measure existing openings and check the selected product’s dimensions before ordering replacements.

Panel height is separate from gravel-board height. A 5ft 6in panel above a 6in gravel board gives approximately 6ft overall. Work from the finished height you want, including any board underneath.

On sloping ground, plan to step rigid panels in level bays and account for the changing ground level.

Match the Panels to Timber Posts

The perimeter frame is designed for fixing to timber posts. Check post condition, spacing and the fixing method before reusing an existing fence line. Do not assume the frame will fit an existing concrete-post slot.

For a straight freestanding run, you normally need one more post than panels. Allow for corners, ends and gate openings, and include post dimensions when setting out the run.

Pressure-Treated Timber and Care

These panels have a pressure-treated brown finish to help protect the timber against rot and decay. The full frame gives a different edge detail from our standard closeboard panels.

Keep the panel clear of soil and wet vegetation, and check posts and fixings periodically. Good support and suitable fixings matter alongside the panel construction.

If you want to paint or stain the timber, let it dry sufficiently first and follow the exterior finish manufacturer’s preparation and recoating guidance.

1. What is the difference between framed and standard closeboard panels?
Both use overlapping vertical featheredge boards to form a solid panel. Framed closeboard panels add a full timber perimeter frame, giving a defined edge and a frame for fixing to timber posts. Check the specification and fixing method of the chosen panel before ordering.
2. Can I fit these panels into concrete fence posts?
These framed closeboard panels are designed for fixing to timber posts. Do not assume they will slide into existing concrete-post slots: check the panel depth, frame dimensions and post opening first. Contact us if you need help choosing a panel for an existing post system.
3. What sizes are available, and does the height include a gravel board?
The panels are 6ft wide and available in 3ft, 3ft 6in, 4ft, 4ft 6in, 5ft, 5ft 6in and 6ft heights. These are panel heights; allow separately for a gravel board underneath. Check the dimensions on the individual product page, especially when replacing panels between existing posts.
4. Are the framed panels treated, and can I paint them?
Yes. The panels are pressure treated with a brown finish for outdoor use. You can apply a suitable exterior wood paint or stain once the timber has dried sufficiently. Follow the finish manufacturer’s preparation and recoating instructions, and keep the panel clear of soil and wet vegetation.
