Closeboard fence panels, also known as featheredge or featherboard fencing, are built from overlapping vertical timber boards secured to horizontal supporting rails. This robust construction creates a strong, solid barrier with no gaps—making them an ideal choice for both privacy and long-term durability in any garden setting.
To keep your closeboard fence panels in top condition, regular maintenance is key. Clean them periodically with a soft brush or low-pressure washer to remove dirt, algae, and debris. Inspect the panels at least once a year for signs of damage—such as loose nails, warping, or rot—especially near the base. Applying a quality timber preservative or stain annually helps protect against moisture, UV damage, and insects, extending the life of your fence and keeping it looking fresh.
“Featheredge panels” refers to the individual boards, which are tapered (thicker on one edge than the other). When these boards are fixed vertically and overlap across horizontal rails to form a solid panel, that’s known as a closeboard fence panel. Some suppliers call them featheredge panels, others call them closeboard panels — but they mean the same thing. You’re getting a strong, traditional-style panel built from overlapping tapered boards for excellent privacy and durability.
